When I first heard “Shuggie,” the lead single off of Foxygen’s debut We Are The 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace and Magic, their psychedelic retro funk pop reminded me a bit of Unknown Mortal Orchestra, with the biggest distinction being the production aesthetic (classic 60’s rock vs. the latter’s lo-fi garage). I was therefore pleased to learn that not only was UMO putting out their succinctly titled II via Jagjaguwar, making the 2 bands labelmates, but furthermore that they would tour together promoting their twin 2013 releases.
So tonight’s show at the Echoplex is one we’ve had firmly circled on our calendar at the Woofer offices for awhile. Advance tix are sold out but there will be a small amount made available at the door. If you’re in the area, we’ll be pre-gaming across the street at El Prado. Should you have other plans this holiday weekend, both albums are now officially out and would make a great soundtrack to a road trip, bbq, or however else you plan on spending what looks to be a beautiful sunny weekend in LA!
